I recently advanced from animator on The Lucas Bros. Moving Co. to storyboard artist. So, that's totally a thing I hopefully I can talk more about in the future...

Also I made album art and a music video that should be out in a few weeks, but again... secret....

Otherworldly Mystics - Book One

The Otherworldly Mystics - Book One compilation is now available on limited edition cassette! It’s got 17 tracks by 17 great artists!

For this first compilation, I designed the album art to look like a science fiction novel from the 70s, with the painting being inspired by Frank R. Paul’s work (not 70s, I know).

The cassette itself was supposed to be yellow to go with the yellow on the cover logo but unfortunately we weren’t able to procure yellow cassettes in a reasonable timeframe.

The original painting is 8" x 10", acrylic on canvas board.

Hey everyone, this is my last post before I head up to Vermont for the month for Ghostscout Training Camp. I’m not bringing my computer with me, and for good reason, because I won’t have internet or power deep in the woods for those 30 days. But I'll be up there with Ghostshrimp and all these cool folks:

I’m gonna be spending the month drawing, illustrating, building, camping, having fun, and most of all getting a much needed break from the technological world. Though, I did buy a new shortwave radio for some Transmission LARP…

I have a few specific projects in mind that I intend to work on this month, and I’m even bringing a couple books for research with me to help out. It’s my hope that I’ll be able to use this undistracted time to finally free up my mind and get the ideas I want onto the page.

And with that, I just want to say thanks for checking this blog out if you do. And if you have any questions or want to send me cool links while I’m gone, feel free to message me here or wherever and I’ll get back to you when I can.

More unseen work. I originally made this for a publication almost a year ago but it’s yet to come to fruition. I recently got the OK to finally put the piece online so, here you go.

It may or may not be related to Transmission, I'll let that be your judgement call.

Happy Birthday Superman

Originally I wanted to do a combo of Mike Allred’s Superman from the Superman/Madman Hullabloo and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman….. but instead I made Bruce Campbell.

Inked on paper, colored in Photoshop CS5; first time using CS5 for anything, my CS3 has started quitting unexpectedly on me and I don't know how to fix it....

Muppet Zardoz

“You came here… from the stone head.”

“I don’t know.”

This kind of just came into my head after i had this Kermit pose in my sketchbook. In a way, it's my take on BOOM! Studios' Muppet Fairy Tale series of books... but Zardoz.

Kermit and the big stone Animal head were inked in my sketchbook and scanned, everything else I made and colored in Photoshop.

Mothman

I made a quick post-Halloween drawing of one of my favorite cryptids, the Mothman:

Finn and Jake

It's been a month or so since I last hand inked a piece, so I whipped this out in an hour with a brush pen and then probably spent more time in Photoshop trying out new palettes.

It's also been awhile since I last drew these guys; the last time probably being when I took the storyboard test for the show at the end of spring. Still love these dudes though.

ParaNorman

I got to see ParaNorman early the other day thanks to my friend Polly, and I really really enjoyed it; especially the super-melancholy motif in the score. Can’t wait till Friday to see it again!

I tried some different techniques on this one, for better/worse. Inked by hand first, scanned (after a gruesome battle getting my scanner to work) and then bitmapped the inks, which I've never done, and colored at 600DPI.

The Thing

Poster for a hypothetical 60s version of The Thing; my final for my Horror Film history class.

Wanted to base the design on the '3 red eyes and worm-like hair' description from John W. Campbell's original Who Goes There? short story, with some inspiration from Roger Corman's Tomb of Ligeia poster.

All brushed ink (minus the 'who goes there' text), scanned into Photoshop, 11" x 16".

Kermit: The Muppet Avenger

Did a little something for Chris Samnee's birthday, combining my love of Kermit, Samnee's Thor: The Might Avenger series, and a chance to do some hand inking.

Oddly enough, The Might Avenger was written by Roger Langridge, who wrote and illustrated the recent Muppet Show comics....

Update: I completely forgot this wonderful Muppet Thor comic existed. Was worth re-reading.

A Real Human Being

I've been listening to the Drive soundtrack non-stop after seeing the film last month, and this song has been stuck in my head since. The application to Pinocchio just kind of occurred in my mind today...

Since I took a different approach to inking this (lately I've been using brush pens), and used a new Photoshop brush, I decided to show you my original pencils as well. I have to say, drawing in that Disney style just really isn't for me hahaha.

The Things

A couple of doodle pieces, based on things that don't really go together...

Used a different brush pen than usual, still adjusting to it. That is all. Be sure to check my Tumblr for more doodles.

Changes

I know I made a post all the way back in May regarding updating all my sites, but.. I got distracted. So, after my first day of class and a day before I have to get hardcore on my thesis, I figured I'd finally do it.

So I did.

Inked in my sketchbook then scanned and edited in Photoshop. The white version started as a Photoshop error, but I liked it so I included it as well.

My Tumblr, Twitter, and my profile pics everywhere else have been updated.

Probably one of the dumber things I’ve thought of…

If anything I really like that first panel... I might use it as a profile picture at some point.

Spera: Fetch Quest

I did a pin-up painting of Pira for the latest online issue of Josh Tierney's Spera, "Fetch Quest," illustrated by Mike Dialynas.

As you can see by the date, I did this last month. It took a couple of days to paint it with acrylic on 9" x 12" canvas, though I ran into trouble with the trees and ended up having to redo them entirely with ink.

If anything, the biggest trouble was photographing the piece because of the poor lighting in my house. I had to do some extensive Photoshop color adjusting to make it match the original as best as possible.

Also, Spera is being published in hardcover by Archaia next month, and it's available for an awesome price on Amazon, so you should definitely go pre-order it.
