I Was Interviewed

I was asked by an author living in Ghana, Comfort Arthur, to do an interview about my work and my influences, it's pretty lengthy but feel free to take a look:

And here is the self-portrait I did for the interview:

Sometimes I have a beard, sometimes I don't. I figured I'd just make both...

This isn't my first interview, I was also recently interviewed for the Oxford Film Festival, but those questions mostly pertain to Transmission.

Tumblr Radar

Much to my shock, no pun intended, I woke up to find out my latest frog GIF got on the Tumblr Radar. And then my follower amount doubled in half a day!

Feels weird, man...

East, West and All the Rest

I don't update this site as often as I should, especially because I still view this as my main 'website'.

Anyways, this past March I drove cross-country from New Jersey to Los Angeles to work at Animation Domination High-Def after working from home for a month. I'm currently animating on an as of yet unannounced series, so I'll be sure to actually post when that happens because I'm very proud of the work I've done on it.

From January through March I was also a judge for the Northwest Animation Festival in Portland, Oregon. Transmission screened there last year on the opening night alongside Disney's Paperman; a fact I still can't believe myself. Transmission, by the way, now has over 46,200 views on Vimeo...

Those things, on top of my work at Otherworldly Mystics and another part time job, have kept me very busy for the last few months; not to mention I'm still getting settled in LA. So with that, I'll leave you with some frog GIFs I recently made, where I experiment with styles for a possible project:

Should be able to update you soon ;;)

Food of the Future

I have a new loop over at LoopDeLoop! Please go check it out there and give it a good rating! Thanks!

It’ll be playing in both Melbourne, Australia and a super fancy fun-party in LA on June 30th!

Made this in Flash in a couple days, recorded the voice over via the Mac's built-in text-to-speech and adjusted it in GarageBand.

Seen/Unseen

Transmission Character Design Progression (11” x 17”)

Back in April, my film screened at the Citrus-Cel Animation Film Festival in Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to screening at the festival I was invited to participate in their Art of Storytelling exhibit; and made up this poster that details my character design process from early doodles to the very different final designs.

I couldn’t attend the festival so I wasn’t able to get any pictures of the printed version, but supposedly I’ll receive such photos…. eventually.

I have a couple other projects of unknown status sitting about, I might just show them too if nothing becomes of their intentions.

Happy Birthday Superman

Originally I wanted to do a combo of Mike Allred’s Superman from the Superman/Madman Hullabloo and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman….. but instead I made Bruce Campbell.

Inked on paper, colored in Photoshop CS5; first time using CS5 for anything, my CS3 has started quitting unexpectedly on me and I don't know how to fix it....

Sewper Mutant Vs. The Rain

Just a little experiment in Photoshop with lighting and blurring; not to mention its the first completed thing I've drawn entirely in Photoshop in awhile.
Lately I've been sketching on paper, scanning, and then adjusting those drawing before going over them digitally. So this was a nice change of pace.
As for Sewper Mutant here, I've actually been in the process of writing and developing a full-fledged comic of him. But it might not be what you're expecting; more on that in due time...

DJANGOOOOOO

Just a quick thing I whipped out the other night for practice:

Brush-pen ink in sketchbook, colored in Photoshop.

Richard Parker Returns

This is only relevant to the small crowd of the world that saw both The Amazing Spider-Man and Life of Pi... and still remembers both.

But I don't care because I found it amusing.

You're welcome!

Muppet Zardoz

“You came here… from the stone head.”

“I don’t know.”

This kind of just came into my head after i had this Kermit pose in my sketchbook. In a way, it's my take on BOOM! Studios' Muppet Fairy Tale series of books... but Zardoz.

Kermit and the big stone Animal head were inked in my sketchbook and scanned, everything else I made and colored in Photoshop.

Transmission Comes to Brooklyn

This weekend is the Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival in Brooklyn. Transmission will have its first North American festival screening there this Sunday at 7:15 PM. To commemorate the occasion, here is a set of animated GIFs I've made to give you a sneak peak:

Stay tuned for more screening news! And remember, tapes are still available if you can't make it to a screening!

Mothman

I made a quick post-Halloween drawing of one of my favorite cryptids, the Mothman:

Felt brush-pen on printer paper, colored in Photoshop.

Finn and Jake

It's been a month or so since I last hand inked a piece, so I whipped this out in an hour with a brush pen and then probably spent more time in Photoshop trying out new palettes.

It's also been awhile since I last drew these guys; the last time probably being when I took the storyboard test for the show at the end of spring. Still love these dudes though.

Here's a sneak peek at a new short short film I'm making:

I made it in a day.

And you can vote for it on LoopDeLoop up until tomorrow!

Beakerhead

Having a little fun with two things I love: The Muppets and David Lynch's Eraserhead.

Done completely in Photoshop.

Beeper. Reminder.

Set your beepers for this Saturday at 5PM:

The location is:

Crossroads Brewery

Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it there myself, but if you’re in the area you should definitely check it out, cause there’s a bunch of other cool films in the program in addition to my inexplicable entry.
