Comic-Con Update

Seems I forgot to post this here, so here you go:

So, this is the only image I have at the moment from my screening and Q&A at San Diego Comic-Con last week. This is my famous ‘whadayagonnado?’ pose…

There was a decent amount of people and I got about 10 questions in the limited time I had, but they were all good questions that I was not at all prepared to answer, especially the weirdly deep ones.

All in all I had a great weekend, though I didn’t stay the full 5 days, but I got to hang out with friends I haven’t seen in awhile, meet some new people, gave out a couple cassette tapes to people I idolize and just relax for once. I’d say it went well!

Note: I rep’d the Ghostshrimp shirt for this, though the question of ‘what are you doing next?’ never arose…

Big Transmission News!

So, it's officially time to reveal some super exciting news! Transmission will be screening at both Comic-Con International's and Dragon*Con's Film Festivals this year! But the news doesn't end there...

Comic-Con has invited me to do a panel Q&A session in addition to screening the film, which will make this the first time that I'll be discussing the film and answering questions with people that have seen it. That will be happening on Thursday, July 18th at 7:40 PM, here is the event page for room location information. I'm VERY excited for this!

In addition, the film will also been screening at Dragon*Con, but due to my prior engagements in Vermont for the entire month of August, I will be unable to attend.  HOWEVER, the film's composer, Chris Roberts, will be in attendance for this, which will be his first appearance at any screenings for the film! There's no specified date/time (between August 30th and September 2nd) for this screening yet.

If you cannot wait, or cannot make it to any screenings, tapes are still available!

Food of the Future

I have a new loop over at LoopDeLoop! Please go check it out there and give it a good rating! Thanks!

It’ll be playing in both Melbourne, Australia and a super fancy fun-party in LA on June 30th!

Made this in Flash in a couple days, recorded the voice over via the Mac's built-in text-to-speech and adjusted it in GarageBand.

More Festval Updates

Just a few festival updates from the last one,  April was a really successful month for Transmission. The film screened at four festivals, three American one Australian, and to top it all off the film went on to be a Semi-finalist for the 40th Annual Student Academy Awards!

Unfortunately the film was not selected for the finals, but it was still an honor to get that far and the films that proceeded were more than worthy. But, here are some photos if you needed further proof:

Next up on the festival agenda is the Northwest Animation Festival in Portland next Friday (May 17th), where Transmission will play on the festival's opening night, in the same set as this years Academy Award winner for Best Short Animated Film, Disney's Paperman. Which... is absurd, and I'm pretty bummed out that I won't be able to make it out for the festival. This festival will also repeat all of its sets two weeks later in Eugene (so, May 31st), but main festivities are during that first weekend.

After that, I've been informed the film will be screening at the British Animation Film Festival in London on June 23rd; which is pretty neat because the first festival Transmission screened at was the FLIP Animation Festival in the UK last November, so I'm glad it's getting a second British appearance after all this time.

Stay tuned for more!

Festival Updates

Looks like this next month is going to be very busy for Transmission!

This weekend the film will be screening at The Little Rock Film Festival’s Little Rock Horror Picture Show.  The film will be screening as part of their International Shorts 1 block, which screens twice: First at 10:15 AM at the Argenta Community Theater and again later that day at 1PM at The Joint.

In addition the film will be screening in Jacksonville, Florida at the Citrus Cel Animation Film Festival and I'll also have a piece there at their Art of Storytelling exhibition, which shows the character design process of the film over the course of two years. The film will play on Saturday April 6th, at 2PM as part of their Freshly Squeezed Vol. 2 Student Shorts program.

Next up, as of today, I've been accepted into the Ivy Film Festival, which runs at Brown University from April 8th to the 14th. At this moment I don't know what day the film will be screening so I'll have more on that later (the Transmission film page will always have up to date info).

Lastly (for now, HAHA!) I'll be screening at the Animation Hall of Fame's Savannah International Film Festival in Savannah, Georgia. The festival is just one day, April 13th, and my film will be screening as the opener of Animation Block #4 at 2PM.

I'm still waiting on confirmations from a bunch of other festivals, so stay tuned for more info. As of right now, I don't know which of these I'll be able to attend, if at all, but if I can I'll surely let you know!

Update (3-25-13): Good news! Now Transmission will be screening at the A Night of Horror International Film Festival in Sydney, Australia! The film will be screening on Monday April 15th at 9PM as the opener of the Shorts Program 4: American Horror Stories! This is the only non-USA stop in the month so far, and making April out to be a very busy month. That's a festival a week!

Update (3-29-13): Was just informed tonight that Transmission has been accepted to yet another festival! This time its the Northwest Animation Festival, which actually takes place on two weekends in Oregon; first is May 17th - 19th in Portland, and then again May 31st - June 2nd in Eugene. My friend, and fellow SVA 2012 graduate, Evan Borja, will also have his film, OTZI, screened here!

Transmission Comes to Brooklyn

This weekend is the Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival in Brooklyn. Transmission will have its first North American festival screening there this Sunday at 7:15 PM. To commemorate the occasion, here is a set of animated GIFs I've made to give you a sneak peak:

Stay tuned for more screening news! And remember, tapes are still available if you can't make it to a screening!

Transmission at KLIK 2012

Reminder! KLIK Amsterdam Animation Festival is this weekend from November 7th to the 11th in Amsterdam.

Transmission will be screening as part of the Student Shorts 2 program on BOTH the 8th (tomorrow) and the 10th, which is pretty cool. Not to mention theres a ton of other awesome films screening in the same set, so if you can make it, stick around.

And as mentioned before, you can still purchase the limited edition Transmission cassette and get instant secret access to the film if you're unable to make it to any of the festival screenings and/or just want rare items.

Beeper at the Athens Animation Festival

Well here's an interesting turn of events:

My previous film, Beeper, has been accepted into the Athens Animation Festival, which will be taking place on September 15th in Athens, New York. But you can view it right now if you wish.

As for when and where my latest film, Transmission, will be screened... more on that later.

Loop de Loop Update

(Update 6/4/11: Neil Sanders was nice enough to send a couple extra photos my way of my animation from the show! First, another grid of work, this time with the character visible. And second, Neil himself next to a gargantuan version of my animation; which still astonishes me!)

No, I still haven't gotten around to updating all my graphics yet... but anyways... The first ever Loop de Loop screening was last night (or maybe two night ago, as Australia time is like... a full day ahead of here), and my work was screened alongside 49 other great animators' work. I'd of loved to have been there, but... other side of the planet and all.

Mine's the white one in the middle with the chair, previously seen here.

Over at the Loop de Loop website, there's a post about the screening, the attendance, and the winners, with a few more photos as well; you should totally check it out. I'm very glad to hear that they had a great turnout for an event that only started early last month, and I'm honored that my work was played right next to some really awesome animations from people on the other side of Earth.

I'm looking forward to making something entirely new for next month's theme, I just have to fit it into my thesis' pre-production schedule, as I've been working on that all summer.

Loop de Loop

I've forgotten to post this for a couple weeks now, I've just been so busy with all the end of year stuff going on at SVA, finishing my final film (which you can see the animatic for now) and moving back to New Jersey.

Last month, awesome Australian based animator Neil Sanders, contacted me about a new animation event he was putting together in Melbourne, and asked if I could submit my "Trip Nip, Sit." animation.

The event's long form title is Loop de Loop @ Loop, it's a new monthly animation challenge/screening, with a big long description if you're into history. But basically, each month has a theme, animators submit their work, people vote on them, and at the end of the month everything gets screened at Loop Bar in Melbourne, where the animator with the highest votes gets put in their Hall of Fame.

This month's theme is LAUNCH, as the program is launching, and mine was the first to go up since it was requested and already made; but I'd really appreciate some 5-star votes! If this new event has a good outcome, I might consider doing something each month, as a fun break from all the work I plan on doing for my thesis film. We'll see!
