Among Waves

Available now, a new album from Orca Life, featuring artwork by me:

In addition to the album artwork, I also filmed and directed a music video for a track off the album, "Fall In":

Both the album artwork and video are made from a series of video experiments I shot, applied over photographs/video shot by Chris Roberts (Orca Life himself) and edited together. Since Photoshop and After Effects have the same layer mode options, I tried to treat the video exactly as I did the artwork, which for an experiment I think turned out pretty well.

Also featured on the J-Card interior is the "Jesse" logo that I created for Orca Life.

Watch the video, listen to and buy the album. Enjoy.

More Developements

I recently advanced from animator on The Lucas Bros. Moving Co. to storyboard artist. So, that's totally a thing I hopefully I can talk more about in the future...

Also I made album art and a music video that should be out in a few weeks, but again... secret....

Also i'm on Ello now for whatever reason...

Otherwise, have some art I haven't posted here yet:

I Was Interviewed

I was asked by an author living in Ghana, Comfort Arthur, to do an interview about my work and my influences, it's pretty lengthy but feel free to take a look:

And here is the self-portrait I did for the interview:

Sometimes I have a beard, sometimes I don't. I figured I'd just make both...

This isn't my first interview, I was also recently interviewed for the Oxford Film Festival, but those questions mostly pertain to Transmission.

Sewper Mutant Vs. The Rain

Just a little experiment in Photoshop with lighting and blurring; not to mention its the first completed thing I've drawn entirely in Photoshop in awhile.
Lately I've been sketching on paper, scanning, and then adjusting those drawing before going over them digitally. So this was a nice change of pace.
As for Sewper Mutant here, I've actually been in the process of writing and developing a full-fledged comic of him. But it might not be what you're expecting; more on that in due time...

DJANGOOOOOO

Just a quick thing I whipped out the other night for practice:

Brush-pen ink in sketchbook, colored in Photoshop.

Richard Parker Returns

This is only relevant to the small crowd of the world that saw both The Amazing Spider-Man and Life of Pi... and still remembers both.

But I don't care because I found it amusing.

You're welcome!

Muppet Zardoz

“You came here… from the stone head.”

“I don’t know.”

This kind of just came into my head after i had this Kermit pose in my sketchbook. In a way, it's my take on BOOM! Studios' Muppet Fairy Tale series of books... but Zardoz.

Kermit and the big stone Animal head were inked in my sketchbook and scanned, everything else I made and colored in Photoshop.

Nuthin' But A Swamp Thang

This stupid pun came in my head, so I decided to make my own take on Dr. Dre's The Chronic...

I had to recreate all the framing from the original cover, and I just happened to have the right fonts, with some adjusting here and there.

As for the illustration, that was all Photoshop drawing, and just experimenting with drawing style.

It’s like this and like that and like this and uh….

Birthday and Transmission News

I have some exciting news regarding my film, Transmission! Transmission has been accepted into the KLIK! Amsterdam Animation Festival, which runs from November 7 to 11 in Amsterdam. I'll have more info on exact screening dates and times when the info comes to me.

In addition, heres a peek at something Chris Roberts and I have been working on at Otherworldly Mystics:

Sadly, I can't give away too much about this one for now, so stay tuned!

And lastly, yesterday was my birthday so I drew myself a picture involving one of my favorite films: Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky.

ParaNorman

I got to see ParaNorman early the other day thanks to my friend Polly, and I really really enjoyed it; especially the super-melancholy motif in the score. Can’t wait till Friday to see it again!

I tried some different techniques on this one, for better/worse. Inked by hand first, scanned (after a gruesome battle getting my scanner to work) and then bitmapped the inks, which I've never done, and colored at 600DPI.

Sewper Mutant Returns?

Was trying to draw some musclebound dudes for this thing I’m working on but can’t talk about… and ended up drawing some Sewper Mutant for once.

…I’d like to get back into drawing more comics with him. More news coming soon I suppose.

The Thing

Poster for a hypothetical 60s version of The Thing; my final for my Horror Film history class.

Wanted to base the design on the '3 red eyes and worm-like hair' description from John W. Campbell's original Who Goes There? short story, with some inspiration from Roger Corman's Tomb of Ligeia poster.

All brushed ink (minus the 'who goes there' text), scanned into Photoshop, 11" x 16".

Labyrinth

Hi there. Here's a quick Labyrinth/Kermit thing.

I've been wanting to draw something of Labyrinth for awhile now, so I just got this out of my system while I had a little bit of a break from my regular classes. Now back to thesis work...

One of Us

Was gonna go with "Won of Us" as per the show title as a joke, but I figured people would just think I'm illiterate...

Below, when you click it, you'll find a larger, non-GIF'd version.

Now back to serious work ;)

Walter

I saw The Muppets last night, and made a comic of my favorite part.

Happy Thanksgiving.

A Real Human Being

I've been listening to the Drive soundtrack non-stop after seeing the film last month, and this song has been stuck in my head since. The application to Pinocchio just kind of occurred in my mind today...

Since I took a different approach to inking this (lately I've been using brush pens), and used a new Photoshop brush, I decided to show you my original pencils as well. I have to say, drawing in that Disney style just really isn't for me hahaha.

The Things

A couple of doodle pieces, based on things that don't really go together...

Used a different brush pen than usual, still adjusting to it. That is all. Be sure to check my Tumblr for more doodles.

Changes

I know I made a post all the way back in May regarding updating all my sites, but.. I got distracted. So, after my first day of class and a day before I have to get hardcore on my thesis, I figured I'd finally do it.

So I did.

Inked in my sketchbook then scanned and edited in Photoshop. The white version started as a Photoshop error, but I liked it so I included it as well.

My Tumblr, Twitter, and my profile pics everywhere else have been updated.

Be-ith Ye Men?

Probably one of the dumber things I’ve thought of…

Hand inked, and scanned. Edited in Photoshop.

If anything I really like that first panel... I might use it as a profile picture at some point.
